Trips for Kids: October 2012

Building Healthy Confident Kids Two Wheels at a Time

Dear Community,

Girl riding with TFKD at Elk Meadow

The other day, I was out on my bike smelling the fresh autumn breeze and trying to beat the sun back to the parking lot and I got to thinking about how amazingly blessed we all are.  Right here in our own backyard is some of the most incredible mountain biking, road biking and all sorts of other fun recreation this country has to offer…and better yet, Trips for Kids Denver/Boulder is helping kids make that connection every single day.  If you haven’t been able to take a ride with us, in my humble opinion, now is the time people!
We have tried pretty consistently to let you all know what we are up to from week to week and how our efforts are making a difference in the lives of underserved youth every day.  Well, I also want to say, it makes a difference in the lives of our volunteers and supporters too and without you all, we would not be able to live up to all of our good news reports. In our programs, volunteers work in groups and one on one to support, challenge and encourage youth to try new things and push themselves to reach new heights.  Our financial supporters keep our wheels rolling, rubber side down, encouraging us to take on new risks , like the opening of our new Bicycle Re-Cyclery in 2013.  So, thank you for all you do to support Trips for Kids Denver/Boulder and we hope we will see you in one of our programs, whether it is the famous Ride Program, or the unsung hero the Earn a Bike program, we are grateful that you chose to be part of our family.  Spread the word, there’s always room for more!

Sincerely,

Christi Stafford

Executive Director

Dirt Rag Covers HUNDO’s
Bailey Trails Mission
TFK worked hard with a team of other cycling non-profits, Bailey community leaders, and politicians on wheels to establish the Bailey HUNDO three years ago.  The Bailey HUNDO was was founded on the idea that a race could help put more kids on bikes and the town develop the ground work and raise the funds to make the necessary earth-moving, trail work to materialize to make the area’s trail systems shine.  This story lays out what the HUNDO hopes to achieve: turn Bailey into a national level mountain biking destination!
