Trips for Kids: April 2012

Building Healthy Confident Kids Two Wheels at a Time
Dear Andrew,

Can you believe it is already May?  Well, our beautiful spring weather has certainly not gone to waste this year and while Mother Nature has been generous with administering beautiful sunny days to Colorado, we have been out taking advantage of every opportunity to get kids on bikes.  But that isn’t all; recapping April included many Earn a Bike programs, a good supply of Ride days, a few special events and even a bike sale.  We also can’t forget, we introduced two new Ride Leaders to the family too.  Trips for Kids Denver/Boulder is proud to introduce Stephan Sheppard and Steve Maharg to the mix.  You can learn more about these fabulous guys by reading down below.

Our busiest time is still yet to come and as we mentioned before, our goals for this summer is to serve 1,500 youth in the ride program alone.  With that being said, there are tons of volunteer opportunities for you to be a part of.  Read below to learn more about how you can be a part of helping us achieve our goals!!

Happy Spring everybody!!

Sincerely,

Christi Stafford

Trips for Kids Denver/Boulder is only successful, thanks to the tireless work of our volunteers. Every month in 2012, we will feature a volunteer who has helped make our programs a success!

Meet the Steve’s, two volunteers turned Ride Leaders!

Stephen Sheppard first became involved with Trips for Kids Denver/Boulder in late winter. When asked what inspired him to get involved, he reflected back on his first mountain bike and how hard he worked to save up for it. That first mountain bike open the world of racing, adventures and long rides. He comes to TFKD/B from the business world in both cycling and solar power. His favorite part about working with Trips for Kids Denver/Boulder is seeing the kids encourage each other to try new things and gain confidence.

Steve Maharg also first got involved with Trips for Kids as a volunteer in late winter. He is thrilled to be mountain biking with kids of TFKD/B as he is a self proclaimed “adventure nut”. He loves riding bicycles and recently finished the AIDS LifeCycle, a 580 mile cycle from San Francisco to Los Angeles to raise funds and awareness for AIDS research. In addition to his commitment to Trips for Kids Denver/Boulder, Steve is also a highschool Spanish teacher for Jefferson County Public Schools.

Please welcome the Stephan and Steve to Trips for Kids Denver/Boulder and show them your support by volunteering on a ride with them.
