TFKD/B "Ride" Program Update

TFK Denver and Boulder is charging ahead, on an almost daily basis this time of year, providing underserved young people with fun, safe mountain bike outings.  Under Andy Brannon's leadership, (as of 7/22) 71 rides have been completed through the combined TFKD/B ride programs, recording 625 youth participant days for 2010 - a record pace by a long-shot.  Thanks to all our fantastic volunteers who have supported the rides this year.

Volunteer Shop Night Returns!  July 28th from 4-8 pm.

Volunteer support for our June Shop Night was amazing!  Eight volunteers helped repair wounded program bikes, and prep for the shop sale. By the end of the evening, our awesome crew had removed almost every donated bike from what had become a tangled pile of over 50 bikes, hauled away the junker bikes, and organized the keepers into neat rows of earn-a-bike bikes or bikes for sale.  Let's do it again in July!

Volunteer Shop Night:

July 28th from 4pm -8pm
2840 S Elati St, Englewood, CO 80110

Please contact Andy Brannon if you can lend a hand or just show up! 303-919-4259 or abrannon@tripsforkidsdenver.org

Trips for Kids Denver Shop Sale: August 21st

Are you in the market for a kid's bike or commuter bike?  We need to make room in our shop by selling our stock of donated bikes that are not useful for our youth mountain biking or earn-a-bike programs.  Plan on stopping by Aug. 21 between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m to pick through our wide selection of used bikes.  Kids bikes: $10 and up.  Adult bikes: $25 and up.

We couldn't do it without you!

TFKD/B is enjoying a remarkable year connecting more underserved youth with the health and confidence building sport of cycling than ever before. We are so fortunate to have the support of many sponsors who understand our mission and generously provide financial and in-kind support to make it all happen. Thank you to:

  • New Belgium for a $2,500 grant
  • Baily Hundo: ~$2,000 donation
  • Surly Bikes & QBP: Cool Karate Monkey Bike
  • Boulder Charity Shindig Organizers and Sponsors - raised over $2k for TFKB!
    • Buffalo 5 Piece - Band
    • Coalesce Design & Fabrication
    • Mountain Sun, Avery, & Boulder Beer
  • White Orchid Interiors & CO Furniture Rental's "Win for a Cause" program with Primal/1st Bank Racing Team: $100/win = $1k+ so far!
  • Primal Wear: Donating a TFK "Ride Leader" jersey for outstanding volunteers and contributors. (More on this next month!)
  • Yeti/Sunflower MTB Team for cash & inkind contributions & for support of the Bailey 100
  • YetiBeti team for a recent cash contribution
  • Tom Zirbel  for his unmatched Bailey Hundo fundraising efforts - about $1k
  • Treads and Evergreen Bicycle Outfitters for collecting bike donations
  • Sports Garage for assisting with with the $4,500 Specialized TFKB grant

Pearl Izumi and REI deserve special mention in this section, as always.  Both organizations' support of TFKD/B is light years beyond what I can communicate in this limited format.  Their cash, in-kind, event (TFKB Launch & Bailey Hundo) and volunteer support has been key to the organization's success from the early years of TFKD and has directly enabled nearly 3,000 underserved young people to participate the great sport of mountain biking.  We truly could not do what we do without the support of REI and Pearl Izumi.  A giant thank you to both of these outstanding corporate citizens!
